Our Chatham Centre

We maintain beautiful natural elements in our playground such as plants, timber, grass, sand, mud and pets. Our science experiments offer open ended opportunities for children to explore with scientific concepts including water play. We also offer opportunities for children to be involved in group sewing projects and have a beautiful range of musical instruments for the children to explore and perform with.

Your child will have opportunities to explore the local area within the safety of a high staff:child ratio for excursions. We have previously visited the Art Gallery, Museum, Harbour foreshore, local neighbours to deliver cookies, St Vincent de Paul’s to donate items. There are opportunities to connect with the older generation in a monthly visit from a local aged care setting to participate in gardening, singing and storytelling groups.

Transition to school

We seamlessly integrate our educational content into the care setting, ensuring children receive educational preparation for school, while giving parents the flexibility of extended hours.

Giving children the time and opportunity to use everyday items and tools so they learn to be responsible and safe
Clay, paper, pens and all sorts of craft on hand all day, everyday for all of the children to pick up and play with when they choose
Sand, spades, recycled rain water...perfect ingredients for all kinds of concotions
Let the children pick when and where they want to learn. The children can choose a spot in the garden to grab a picnic blanket, a cushion and let their imagination run wild
Why not paint whilst in a hammock? Our interchangeable pergola allows for hammocks, swings, wobble bridges and the children can help us change things up as often as they want
There is so much evidence to support the benefits of sleeping outdoors and the children will often grab a bed and a blanket and enjoy the warm breeze for an afternoon snooze
Loose part play is when you really see children's imaginations come to life...
Rainy days don't stop play! We love it when gumboots and raincoats are packed; the squeals and muddy puddles provide hours of fun
'See what happens when I put this domino here..' We are lucky to have an abundance of room; locking up the car park means we have more space to use our big equipment
Our chickens and children like to roam free alongside each other

Creativity and exploration

We are passionate about supporting children in their creativity and exploration and create opportunities for them to use their imaginations all throughout the day. Dedicated Art Space

Our dedicated art space is the perfect environment for children to outwork their imaginations creatively. Children are encouraged to experiment with different materials, colours and surfaces to bring their ideas to life.

Art is also a great way for children to develop their fine motor skills as they carefully paint, draw and work the materials together. These skills and experiences set the foundations for many skills used in school and life.

Will I need to provide lunch for my child at The Rumpus Room?

Yes, the Rumpus Room is a lunchbox centre. We encourage parents to provide a variety of healthy foods for their lunches each day to supplement morning and afternoon tea, which is provided by the centre. We aim to provide a serve of fruit and vegetables for every child each day, sometimes even from our own garden! In providing fruit and vegetables to the children each day, we are helping them to develop a foundation for future healthy eating.

We ask parents to join along with healthy snacks, sandwiches, and easy to eat meals that can be enjoyed by children while eating with their peers.

Each room has a different approach to mealtimes, and we encourage families to reach out to discuss how to best support their children as they transition into care and from room to room.
